April 23rd, 2012 Meeting
On April 23rd, the Washington DC chapter met with Shahrazad Kablan to discuss her hard work in Libya. Shahrazad has an amazing story. She had been teaching school in Ohio when the Libyan Revolution broke out. She decided to drop everything, quit her job, and go to Libya, to learn and contribute to what was going on. She ended up establishing a radio station in Qatar (she was the first female anchor in that area), where she reported on what was going on in Libya. She worked with her friend, Hana El Hebshi, the 2011 Libyan Woman of Courage, by providing a media outlet for Hana to share information about the realities of living under the previous regime. Shaharazad is also working with the Libyan Women Alliance. One of their projects is to build women's participation and representation in the National Transitional Council.
